Junipers are known for their rather abrasive leaves, so keep in mind that the foliage can cause skin irritation with sensitive individuals. Its colour is slightly brighter in the spring but develops to its characteristic silver blue for the balance of the year. Often best positioned with other strong shapes that might grow in more of a spreading or prostrate habit, the consistent colouration of the Juniper does best when placed in a larger garden space.

Juniperus Skyrocket’s long, slender shape is always an eye-catching plant in the landscape. When planting, space the shrub at least ½ to 2 meters apart to allow adequate growth room. Skyrocket’s slender conical shape makes it well-suited to narrow side yards or other tight fitting urban landscape areas. Many landscapers and gardening enthusiasts enjoy planting it on either side of a doorway, beside the corner of a building, or next to walkways to create a natural accent column. The conifer’s steel bluish grey colouration makes it an excellent garden focal point specimen. It withstands high winds without breaking so makes an ideal windbreak. The hardy conifer can be grouped together to form a hedge or privacy screen. With its unique form Juniper Sky Rocket has many landscape benefits. Skyrocket is considered fully hardy across all of the UK and Ireland.

Juniperus Scopulorum Skyrocket can do well in either exposed or sheltered positions. It also tolerates salt spray and thrives in coastal regions. Unlike other conifers, it grows well in a wide array of soils such as clay, slightly alkaline, slightly acidic and compacted soils. Once established Rocky Mountain Juniper Skyrocket forms a deep and diverse root system that makes it exceptionally drought tolerant. Ideally, you should apply a slow release fertilizer in the early spring months before it produces new growth. However, it does benefit from an annual application of a general purpose fertilizer. It does not need pruning to maintain its eye-catching figure.

Rocky Mountain Juniper Skyrocket requires no specialized care after planting. It will not tolerate soggy ground very well.

Juniperus Scopulorum Skyrocket grows best in full sun, but will tolerate partial shade although this aspect is not ideal as it can produce less dense foliage. It can grow to 5-6 metres high with a spread of 0.5-1.0 metres when mature, but it takes its time getting there, a relatively slow grower taking from 20 to as many as 50 years to reach ultimate growth. In terms of foliage, Juniperus Scopulorum Skyrocket is more of a grey or silvery-blue colour. It is the most slender, column-like or pencil shaped of all the juniper available for landscape uses, its fastigiate form adding valuable architectural interest to your landscape. Its exceptionally slender columnar growth form resembles a rocket. Juniperus Scopulorum Skyrocket grows in a narrow, columnar shape.
